NIXON
Watch Size & Fit Guide
Nixon watch size refers primarily to the diameter of the watch case, measured in millimetres. Case diameter determines the overall visual scale, but wrist circumference, lug-to-lug span, case thickness, weight and band design also affect how a watch fits.
Use the tables below as a starting point, then consider whether you prefer a subtle, proportional or oversized look. Nixon watches are not limited by gender—choose the size and style that feel right on your wrist.
Understanding Watch Measurements
| Measurement | What It Means |
|---|---|
| Case Diameter | The width across the watch case, normally excluding the crown and pushers. This is the measurement Nixon uses for its watch-size categories. |
| Case Thickness | The depth from the caseback to the highest part of the case or crystal. Thicker watches feel more substantial and sit higher under a sleeve. |
| Lug-to-Lug | The distance from the top lug tips to the bottom lug tips. This is not always published, but it strongly affects whether the case sits within the width of your wrist. |
| Lug / Band Width | The space where the band connects to the case. Use Nixon’s exact lug measurement when choosing a compatible replacement band. |
| Wrist Circumference | The measurement around your wrist where the watch will sit. Measure snugly without pulling the tape tight. |
Nixon Watch Size Categories
| Nixon Category | Case Diameter | How It Typically Wears |
|---|---|---|
| Small | 23–31 mm | A compact, jewellery-like look and a useful starting point for smaller wrists. |
| Medium | 32–41 mm | Nixon’s most popular size range; versatile on many wrist sizes. |
| Large | 42–47 mm | A prominent, substantial fit with more wrist presence. |
| Oversized | 48–52 mm | Designed for larger wrists or a bold statement look. |
Suggested Case Size by Wrist Circumference
These are Nixon’s proportional starting points, not strict rules. Personal preference and case shape can move you into a smaller or larger category.
| Wrist Circumference | Suggested Watch Size | Starting Fit |
|---|---|---|
| Below 6 in / 15 cm | Below 40 mm | Small or compact Medium models generally remain proportional. |
| 6–7 in / 15–18 cm | 40–44 mm | Medium-to-Large models provide a balanced, noticeable fit. |
| Above 7 in / 18 cm | Above 44 mm | Large and Oversized models are a proportional starting point. |

Why Two Watches With the Same Diameter Can Fit Differently
Case Shape
Square and rectangular digital cases can look broader than a round watch with a similar published size.
Lug Span
Long or straight lugs increase the length across the wrist. The lug tips should ideally remain within your wrist’s top surface.
Thickness & Weight
A thicker steel chronograph feels larger and heavier than a thin resin or digital model with a similar diameter.
Dial & Bezel
A wide bezel can make the visible dial look smaller, while a narrow bezel makes the same case diameter appear more open.
Watch Band Sizing & Adjustment
| Band Type | How the Fit Is Adjusted |
|---|---|
| Leather, Rubber, Silicone or TPU | Select the buckle hole that holds the watch securely without squeezing. The buckle should sit near the centre of the underside of the wrist. |
| Stainless Steel Links | Links may need to be removed or added. Use the clasp micro-adjuster for smaller changes where provided. A jeweller or watch shop can size the bracelet evenly. |
| Sliding Clasp / Mesh | Release the locking plate, slide the clasp to the required position and lock it securely. Follow the instructions for that exact clasp. |
| Replacement Band | Match the product’s published lug width and connection type. Quick-release, spring-bar and screw-bar systems are not automatically interchangeable. |
How a Watch Should Fit
Secure, Not Tight
The watch should stay positioned on top of the wrist without leaving deep marks, pinching or restricting movement.
Minimal Sliding
Some movement is normal, but the watch should not rotate under the wrist or slide repeatedly into the hand.
Case Supported
For a proportional fit, the case and lugs should be supported by the top of the wrist rather than visibly overhanging both edges.
How to Measure for a Watch
Wrist Circumference: Wrap a flexible tape around the wrist where you plan to wear the watch. Keep it snug against the skin without compressing it. If using string, mark where the ends meet, lay it flat and measure the length.
Case Diameter: Measure straight across the case at its widest point, normally excluding the crown and pushers. Compare this number with Nixon’s published Watch Size.
Case Thickness: Measure from the caseback to the highest point of the case or crystal. Include any protruding crystal profile.
Lug-to-Lug: Measure from the outer tip of the top lugs to the outer tip of the bottom lugs. Compare this with the flat top width of your wrist.
Lug / Band Width: Measure the inside space between the lugs where the band connects. For replacement bands, also confirm the connection type listed for the watch.
Water Resistance Is Not a Size Rating
Case size does not indicate water resistance. Always follow the water rating and care instructions for the exact Nixon model. Check that the crown is secured as directed and avoid operating crowns or pushers underwater unless the product instructions specifically permit it.
Sizing is a guide only. Wrist shape, case geometry, weight, materials, band construction and personal style all affect fit. Specifications on the exact Nixon product page take priority.
