      What Is Polar Fleece?

Polar fleece is a soft synthetic knit that provides warmth without the weight of heavier insulated outerwear. It is generally breathable, relatively lightweight and quick to dry, making it useful for active layering and changing winter conditions.

Lightweight polar fleece works well over a base layer and beneath a snowboard jacket. Heavier fleece can provide additional insulation or function as casual outerwear during dry fall and spring weather.

Choose polar fleece when you want warmth that remains easy to move in, layer and pack.

      What Is Sherpa Fleece?

Sherpa fleece has a deeper, more textured pile that creates a plush look and feel. It is typically warmer and more substantial than lightweight polar fleece, making it a comfortable choice for cold days, travel and everyday winter wear.

A sherpa jacket can be worn over a T-shirt, thermal top or base layer. Depending on its weight and fit, it may also work beneath roomier outerwear.

Choose sherpa when softness and warmth are your priorities. Select lighter polar fleece when breathability, packability and low-bulk layering matter more.

Women’s Snowboard Fleece from 686, Burton & Eivy

Fleece is an important part of a flexible snowboard layering system. It adds insulation between a moisture-managing base layer and weather-protective outerwear, allowing you to adjust your warmth for changing temperatures and activity levels.

686 and Burton bring technical snowboard experience to fleece layers designed around winter use, while Eivy offers women’s snow-focused styles that combine practical layering with distinctive colour and design.

Volcom and Airblaster add authentic snowboard influence through relaxed silhouettes, mountain-ready details and recognizable styling rooted in board culture.

Most fleece is not intended to replace a waterproof snowboard jacket. During snow, wind or wet conditions, wear it beneath appropriate technical outerwear unless the individual garment specifically provides weather protection.

      Pullovers, Quarter-Zips & Full-Zip Fleece

A fleece pullover provides straightforward warmth and works well as both a casual layer and snowboard midlayer. Snap-front designs create a classic outdoor look, while quarter-zip and half-zip styles allow you to release heat without removing the garment.

A full-zip fleece jacket is easier to put on, remove and adjust throughout the day. Wear it open during travel or mild weather, then zip it up when temperatures drop.

Fleece vests provide warmth through the core while leaving the arms unrestricted. They are useful for active days, work, layering and transitional weather.

How Warm Should a Women’s Fleece Be?

The right fleece weight depends on the conditions and how you plan to use it:

Choose lightweight fleece for active movement, mild weather or low-bulk layering.

Choose midweight fleece for versatile everyday warmth and snowboarding.

Choose heavyweight or high-pile fleece for colder conditions and casual outerwear.

Choose sherpa fleece when plush warmth and comfort are the priorities.

Your base layer, snowboard jacket and activity level will also affect how much insulation you need. A heavier fleece is not always better if it creates too much warmth or bulk beneath your outerwear.

How Should a Women’s Fleece Fit?

A fleece should allow comfortable movement while leaving enough room for the layers worn underneath.

Choose a closer fit when using it primarily as a snowboard midlayer. A streamlined silhouette will sit more comfortably beneath a jacket and reduce unnecessary bulk.

Select a regular fit for a balance of layering versatility and everyday comfort. Choose a relaxed fit if you plan to wear the fleece over thicker clothing or primarily as a casual outer layer.

Review each product page for its specific fit, material and care instructions because thickness and sizing vary between polar fleece, sherpa and high-pile constructions.

What Is the Difference Between Fleece and a Sweatshirt?

A sweatshirt or hoodie is generally made from a smooth knit material with a soft or brushed interior. It is primarily designed as a casual everyday layer.

Polar fleece, sherpa and high-pile fleece use visibly textured insulating materials that trap warmth and often function as outdoor midlayers or casual jackets.

If you want a traditional hoodie, zip hoodie, cropped hoodie or crewneck, shop our Women’s Sweatshirts & Hoodies collection. If you want polar fleece or sherpa warmth, you are in the right place.
