Your skateboard trucks take a beating. Hard landings, repeated grinds, changing temperatures and everyday wear can eventually break down bushings, pivot cups, kingpins and other small components. The good news is that you may not need an entirely new set of trucks. Replacing a few worn parts can restore their performance and make your board feel dialed again.
At The Drop, we carry skateboard bushings and replacement truck parts from trusted brands including Independent, Thunder, Orangatang and more. Whether you are rebuilding worn street trucks or customizing the response of a longboard, these small upgrades can make a noticeable difference in how your setup turns, carves and feels underfoot.
Choose the Right Skateboard Bushings
Bushings are the urethane cushions located around the kingpin inside each truck. They control how easily your trucks turn, how quickly they return to centre and how stable your board feels at speed.
Softer bushings compress more easily, creating a looser and more responsive turn. They can be a great choice for lighter riders, technical street skating and anyone who prefers a surfier feel. Firmer bushings provide additional resistance and stability, making them better suited to heavier riders, high-speed setups or skaters who prefer tighter trucks.
Bushing shape also affects performance. Conical bushings generally allow for quicker, deeper turns, while barrel and cylindrical shapes offer more support and stability. Many street-truck setups combine a barrel-style boardside bushing with a conical roadside bushing to balance stability and maneuverability.
Street Skateboard & Longboard Bushings
Not every bushing fits every truck. Traditional kingpin skateboard trucks from brands such as Independent and Thunder use different bushing dimensions than many reverse-kingpin longboard trucks.
Longboard bushings from performance brands such as Orangatang are designed for carving, pumping, cruising, freeriding and other longboard disciplines. Their Knuckles and Nipples bushings use specialized shapes and heights intended for compatible reverse-kingpin trucks and should not automatically be installed in traditional street trucks.
Always check the bushing dimensions, truck style and manufacturer compatibility before ordering. If you are unsure which replacement parts fit your setup, bring your board into The Drop and our skate crew can help you find the right match.
Pivot Cups, Kingpins, Washers & Rebuild Parts
Bushings are only one part of a properly functioning truck. Worn pivot cups can create unwanted movement, noise or a vague turning feel. Bent or damaged kingpins may prevent your trucks from tightening correctly, while missing washers and hardware can affect bushing support and overall performance.
Replacing these individual components is an affordable way to extend the life of your favourite trucks. Complete rebuild kits can also provide the bushings, pivot cups, washers, nuts and other essentials needed to refresh both trucks at once.
Customize the Feel of Your Skateboard
New bushings are not just replacement parts—they are one of the easiest ways to customize your skateboard.
If your trucks feel too stiff, a softer bushing may help you turn more naturally without excessively loosening the kingpin nut. If your board feels unstable or develops wheel bite, a firmer bushing can provide additional support. Different shapes, hardness levels and washer combinations allow you to fine-tune the response for your riding style, body weight and personal preference.
