Bones was founded on a simple premise: skateboarders deserve better than repurposed industrial parts. George Powell’s engineering background led to the creation of the first-ever bearings designed from the ground up for skating. At The Drop, we stock Bones because they are the most requested hardware brand in our shop—offering a level of performance and longevity that has remained unbeaten for over 40 years.
The Bearing Hierarchy: From REDS to Swiss Ceramics
We carry the complete lineup of Bones bearings to fit every budget and performance level:
- Bones REDS: The best-selling bearing in history. Fast, durable, and affordable.
- Super REDS: A leveled-up version featuring higher-grade steel and a finer surface finish for a smoother, quieter roll.
- Big Balls REDS: Utilizing six larger balls instead of seven for higher top speeds and better resistance to impact and dirt.
- Bones Swiss: The "Gold Standard." Made in Switzerland, these are the choice of professional skaters worldwide for their unmatched speed and longevity.
- Swiss Ceramics: The ultimate investment. Featuring Cerbec® ceramic balls that are lighter, harder, and waterproof—self-mending the steel races as you ride.
Specialized Wheel Formulas: STF, SPF, and X-Formula
Bones Wheels are famous for their 100% flatspot-resistant urethane. We stock their specialized formulas to match your terrain:
- STF (Street Tech Formula): Specifically engineered for street skating, offering a predictable slide without losing grip on rougher concrete.
- SPF (Skatepark Formula): High-rebound urethane designed for the smooth surfaces of skateparks, providing maximum speed and grip in the bowl.
- X-Formula (XF): The newest innovation. A high-rebound wheel that rolls over rough terrain like a soft wheel but slides and pops like a hard wheel. It’s a game-changer for Canadian streets.
Skate Rated™: Beyond the ABEC Rating
Bones famously ignores the industrial ABEC rating system. While ABEC measures precision for high-RPM electric motors, Bones Skate Rated™ standards prioritize impact resistance, lateral strength, and the ability to perform in dirty environments. Every set comes pre-lubricated with Bones Speed Cream, ensuring they are ready to rip right out of the box.
