Slappy Trucks was founded by Mike Sinclair, a longtime skateboard industry team manager whose experience includes working with Foundation, Toy Machine, Tum Yeto and Nike SB. After years around professional skateboarders and skate products, Sinclair set out to create the truck he personally wanted to ride.
The result was the Slappy ST1: a skateboard truck designed around dependable strength, smooth turning and increased clearance between the hanger and kingpin. That extra clearance helps reduce kingpin hang-ups when grinding curbs, ledges and coping.
At The Drop, you can shop Slappy skateboard trucks in a range of widths, constructions and kingpin configurations for street skating, skateparks, transition and wider shaped boards.
What Makes Slappy Trucks Different?
Slappy’s central design priority is grind clearance without sacrificing turning performance. The hanger and baseplate geometry are designed to produce a responsive, predictable turn while keeping the kingpin farther away from the grinding surface.
The trucks are also designed to feel comfortable without an excessively long break-in period. This makes Slappy a strong option for skaters who want a lively turn and usable grind clearance from the beginning.
What Is the Difference Between Slappy Truck Models?
Although every Slappy truck shares the ST1 design philosophy, the different constructions allow skaters to prioritize durability, lower weight or additional kingpin clearance.
- ST1 Classic: The standard solid construction, designed for everyday durability and a traditional truck feel.
- ST1 Hollow: Uses hollow components to reduce weight while retaining the familiar ST1 geometry.
- ST1 Hollow Light: Slappy’s lighter standard-kingpin construction for skaters looking to reduce overall setup weight.
- ST1 Inverted or Curb Killer: Uses an inverted kingpin configuration to create additional grind clearance.
- ST1 Ultra Low Inverted: Places the kingpin even lower for maximum clearance and a lower-profile configuration.
- ST1 Low Profile: Sits lower than the standard ST1 for quicker pop response and a lower centre of gravity.
- ST1 Wide Boy: Made for wider decks, shaped boards, cruisers and old-school-inspired setups.
Available models, widths and colours will vary with our current inventory.
What Size Slappy Trucks Fit My Skateboard?
Truck width should be matched as closely as possible to the width of your skateboard deck. Ideally, the ends of the axles should sit approximately even with the deck’s outer edges.
For example, an 8.25-inch deck generally pairs with an 8.25-inch truck, while an 8.5-inch deck normally works best with an axle width close to 8.5 inches. Wider shaped decks require appropriately wider trucks.
A close match keeps the wheels properly positioned beneath the board and helps maintain predictable turning, stability and board control.
If your deck falls between two available truck sizes, riding style and personal preference can influence the decision. A slightly narrower truck can feel quicker, while a slightly wider truck may provide more stability.
Are Slappy Trucks Good for Street Skating?
Slappy trucks are particularly well suited to street skating, curb skating and ledge tricks because of their grind-clearance-focused design. Their responsive turning also makes them suitable for skateparks, bowls and everyday cruising.
Skaters who regularly hit curbs may prefer an inverted or ultra-low kingpin model. Riders building a lighter technical setup may lean toward Hollow or Hollow Light trucks, while the Classic offers a dependable standard construction.
